Spring is finally in the air and it seems Brits are preparing to leave hibernation. With searches for gardening products at argos.co.uk up 43 percent compared to last year, leading retailer Argos is tipping 2018 to be the year of the garden.
With searches for garden chairs up 60 percent on the same period last year, Argos predicts many a garden party this season as the nation starts to prepare for Royal Wedding celebrations and a summer of sport.
What’s more, it seems we’re not even willing to wait until the temperature rises to enjoy our outdoor spaces as searches for outdoor heaters rose by 11 percent this week and searches for hot tubs went up an incredible 154 per cent on last year.
Insta-gardening is set to be one of the hottest outdoor trends, with a 41 percent rise year-on-year in searches for decorative pots and garden ornaments. The popularity of social media ‘garden boasting’ has resulted in Brits taking increased pride in the look and feel of their outdoor spaces. In fact, #instagardening has been used more than 700,000 times on Instagram.
Glow in the dark gardens is another trend that looks to be big this summer, as we look to maximise our garden enjoyment even after dark. Argos has seen a 56 percent increase in searches for outdoor lighting such as fairy lights and lanterns in trees, to spotlights in flower beds and illuminated pathways.
To help those in need of green-fingered inspiration, Argos has launched a new report outlining its predicted top twelve gardening trends for 2018.
