Gorgeous garden orchids add a touch of exotic beauty to your garden. These wonderful plants create a stunning display in a shady part of your garden throughout spring, and become a true star of the garden increasing in size with maturity.
There are four wonderfully different but equally stunning types of Garden Orchid available – Pleione, Calantha, Bletilla and Cypripedium. These have been developed by the specialist Dutch nursery, Anthura, who were established in the 1970’s.
Growing to a maximum of 50cm x 50cm (20in x 20in), the four different types of garden orchid offer a variety of flower shape, height and colour from white, through pinks and purples, to oranges and yellows.
There is certain to be one that suits every person and every garden! Having flowered continually from April to June, the plant will die down in autumn. Most wonderfully, these plants truly are frost resistant and will survive temperatures down to -10°C. In fact they require the colder weather in order to form new shoots underground thus producing more and more flowers the following spring.
There is no special science behind growing these beautiful varieties simply plant out in spring and ensure they remain well watered in their first season. No specific care is required during the winter, unless you wish to cover them with a layer of bark mulch.
Hardy Garden Orchids are a delightfully different gift for someone special or a treat for yourself for your own outdoor space. They will be available in all good garden centres across the UK from mid to late March. Look out for the wonderfully stylish and unique packaging and check out www.gardenorchid.com for more information.
