About Littlefair’s

Based in Blackburn, Lancashire, Littlefair’s are multi-awarding-winning manufacturers of water-based wood dyes, varnishes, finishing oils, wax polishes and flooring products. Littlefair’s supply a growing number of trusted stockists across the UK and different market sectors, which has been vital in spreading brand awareness for customers to try Littlefair’s products over larger, established brands. 

Founded in 2001 by Les Littlefair, Les began stocking wood dye products in his bric-a-brac shop. He soon noticed how well the product sold and, as a joiner with an eye for perfection, he believed he could create an even better product that could enhance any untreated wood. After months of perfecting a product that was easy to use, environmentally friendly and beautiful to look at, Les began selling his first “Littlefair’s” range. Soon, the success of his products enabled him to leave the bric-a-brac trade and concentrate on cultivating his own brand, Littlefair’s.

What started as a range of four wood dyes, has grown organically into a company that stocks a multitude of products that varies greatly across the ranges; from traditional wood dyes such as Golden Oak, along with more specialist products such as Danish Oil and Extra Strong Varnish. Littlefair’s are constantly developing new products to ensure their customers have everything they need to complete their projects, whether inside or out!

We possess a passion for British quality. From the manufacturers and packers to the customer service team, we are proud to have cultivated an environment of honesty and integrity which filters down to our customers. In 2021 Littlefair’s were awarded the Distinction Award for Customer Service Excellence, by SME News. Littlefair’s Wood Dyes are water based, environmentally friendly and will bring your wood to life by enhancing the wood grain. The dye penetrates and bonds with the wood to create an enduring lightfast depth of colour, whilst highlighting the beauty and grain of the wood and not covering it up (like paint does!).  As all our dyes are water based they are easy to use, are easy brush clean and with a low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) they have a low odour. 

During lockdown, the UK experienced a phenomenal growth in families, communities and individuals creating far more appealing “open spaces” and in particular enhancing their garden designs.

We have seen an increased use of “colour” and textures in our open spaces and this change of approach to our gardens is now firmly established in our garden planning and design. We all agree this enhances our wellbeing as well as bringing life to our surroundings.

In response to these changes and as we are continuously expanding our wood dye collection and developing more colours for customers to use indoors and outdoors, Littlefair’s announces the launch of our newest range of Exterior Water Based Wood Dyes called Woodland Colours,  joining our existing Universal Ranges; Shades of Grey and Driftwood Collection, all of which are environmentally friendly and safe for your garden. 

Created in their own manufacturing operation, Littlefair’s Woodland Colours and Universal Wood Dyes are available in 10 different colours and sizes ranging from 15ml tester pots to 20ltr drums. 

Developed by Littlefair’s in response to the growing trend of “bringing colour into the garden'' these wood dyes reflect the most common new appearance we see across the market.

This is where our Superior Decking Oil Plus comes in. Completely clear with a matt appearance, this waterproof oil will protect the wood from mould and algae growth without peeling or flaking. It has natural anti-slip properties and with added UV protection will bring out the natural colour of the wood.
