Johnston & Jeff’s new Hedgehog mix, Squirrel and Chipmunk mix in a 1.2kg bag, Duck, Swan and Goose mix in a 1.5kg bag – all plastic free for wildlife careThe company say that the new ranges will help people to be able to feed wildlife in public places such as parks and other communal areas.

Maddy Johnston, Marketing and Media Manager at the company said the launches were part of a move by Johnston & Jeff to ensure they could help people to support all wildlife, not just birds.

As well as extending the company’s range of foods for wildlife, Johnston & Jeff has also launched the Grasmere Squirrel Feeder and Langley Owl Box to go with its popular hedgehog house.

Maddy said: “Johnston & Jeff is well known for supplying high-quality bird food for both wild and kept birds, but as people become more aware of the plight our wildlife is facing and the ongoing loss of biodiversity in the UK, we want to help them help all wildlife.

“As a result, we’re evolving our product ranges to encompass more feeds and wooden products aimed at the animals in your garden such as hedgehogs, rabbits, ducks and squirrels.

“The hedgehog feed is a first for us and will hopefully go some way to stemming the loss of these wonderful little garden visitors. Hedgehogs have seen declines of between 30% and 75% across different areas of the UK since 2000 and without some form of intervention, this trend is likely to continue.”

Maddy added that the smaller bags would help some nature-lovers relive treasured memories from their past.

“So many of our customers tell us about the fond memories they have of feeding the ducks in the park when they were children,” she said.

“Often, experiences like this is what turns people into lifelong nature lovers.

“So, we have created easy to carry bags full of nutritious food for birds and animals to help people care for wildlife wherever they find it.

“Essentially, we want to support people in helping all wildlife and in making a difference, and we’re gradually evolving our product range to reflect this.”
