Make your garden sparkle this Christmas

Since Christmas is around the corner, Deemer Cass - a Christmas tree and decorations expert at Fantastic Services, shares his tips on how to get our garden ready for the festive season. Christmas is the holiday we wait for all year long. It is an occasion to get together with our friends and family. Apart from cooking delicious meals and decorating the Christmas tree, you can add a pinch of sparkle and festivity to your garden as well. It can take some time and effort to make a garden into a Christmas Wonderland but the results are worth it. Here are some decoration ideas you can take advantage of for the holidays.

Trees

Wrap all trees in twinkle lights to about the same height. This will make your garden look balanced and will create symmetry. Remember the stopping point should be the same on all trees. Hedges, shrubs and pine trees should look festive, too. Use net lights instead of strand lights to wrap them up. Being easy to install and a great time-saver justifies their higher price. However, don’t go overboard with the lights. Don’t make your home and garden a lightning show that disturbs your neighbours.

Pathways

Walkways are just as important. Make your front yard more welcoming with a few light strands or perhaps tiny jars decorated with red Christmas ribbons, small electric candle lights and a branch or two inside. There is an easier option for those of you who don’t have much time for DIYs. Make your garden more colourful through the snow using the glow of Christmas lights strands in mason jars. Add them on both sides of your walkway and all the way to the front steps - they need some glow, too. Let your guests enjoy the impressive Christmas atmosphere upon their arrival.

Exterior Christmas Decorations

Exterior holiday decorations tend to consume a lot of energy so if you want to cut down your energy bills, you’d better buy Christmas lights on timers. There are many styles on the market you can choose from that will match your holiday theme. Between two and four 1500-watt plug-in modules will be enough to make sure your exterior decoration is safely lit and timed. If you have columns or posts at the front of your house, you can decorate them with Christmas lights as well. Add Christmas garlands, or greenery, to hide the wires and make them look more seasonal.

Garden Fences

Use natural evergreen garlands to decorate your fences. Keep it simple and elegant as it should complement the rest of your outdoor decor. Add big red ribbons to the fence posts for some colour. You can experiment with ribbons of different colours if you’d prefer, but don’t overdo it. Christmas lights can be added to any element of your garden probably and that doesn’t exclude your fence. Just make sure you have a plug-in module nearby which will make it more convenient to decorate.

Wreaths

Add a wreath to your front door. It is a classical decor item for every occasion, not just for Christmas. Incorporate your favourite colours and add some pine cones to make it yourself. Why not add some traditional berries or artificial fruit to accentuate it? A wreath creates a festive Christmas mood and it is usually added to the front door only. Make sure you add two wreaths if you have a double front door. Get more creative and decorate your shed door with another one so that you can enjoy it every time you look out the window.

Decorate your outdoor Christmas tree! Yes, you probably already have a Christmas tree in your living room, but don’t ignore your outdoor tree, if you have one. You don’t have to make it look just like the one you have inside your home. Huge outdoor Christmas trees need just a few Christmas light strands to stand out and sparkle at night. Smaller trees, however, can look quite cute with some ornaments on. Christmas tree lights are a must! Don’t get discouraged if you don’t own an outdoor tree. You can plant your real Christmas tree in your garden after the holidays.

Christmas is the most anticipated holiday and it brings joy and warmth to our hearts. Decorating your garden can be quite fun, but don’t decorate every single thing you have in your garden. You risk ending up with a festive mess instead of an elegant design. Sometimes it’s better to keep it minimal instead of going grande. Once you’re done with the decorations, just grab a cup of hot chocolate and watch your beautifully decorated garden sparkle for Christmas through the window while the snow is falling down.
