Wyevale Nurseries’ new retail plants for 2019

ONE OF THE UK’s leading commercial nurseries has put together a selection of new plants this month (December, 2018) to follow the predicted trends for the retail sector next year.  Wyevale Nurseries says bold colours look set to be key for 2019, so it’s new plants for retailers in 2019 include the colourful Agapanthus ‘Fireworks’, Cordyline ‘Electric Pink’ and Penstemon ‘Purple Perfection’.

Kyle Ross, Production Manager at Wyevale Nurseries based in Hereford, explained: “This range of new plants showcases some of our boldest and brightest on the nursery. These are just a handful of our new crops for 2019, as we have a large range available right from the start of the year through to early autumn.

“Ones we think will be particularly popular are Agapanthus ‘Firework’ and the Ever Series, Cordyline Electric Series, Raspberry ‘Yummy’, Geum ‘Pink Petticoats’ and Penstemon ‘Purple Perfection’.”

Wyevale Nurseries’ new retail plants for 2019Agapanthus ‘Fireworks’ is an explosion of colour, deep purple merging into pure white blooms. It won the coveted Glee Best New Plant Award 2018. The contrasting deep purple and snow-white flowers will make an ideal combination planting for pots or borders.

To go side-by-side with Fireworks is the new Ever Series. Comprising of two new additions, ‘Ever White’ and ‘Ever Sapphire’. Agapanthus ‘Fireworks’ and the Ever Series are available in a two-litre pot in May/June.

Kyle added: “The Cordyline Electric Series includes three distinct plants, which will look wonderful on a bed end. All three are good growers, drought resistant and are the embodiment of low maintenance.

“Electric Pink’ is an ideal standalone plant with masses of shocking pink foliage, absolutely perfect for those impulse sales. Cordyline Electric Series are available in a three-litre pot in May.”

Penstemon ‘Purple Perfection’ has compact silvery-green foliage coupled with an abundance of rich, super-sized purple blooms. It’s ideal for pots and borders and will be available in a two-litre pot in June.

Raspberry ‘Yummy’ is a new dwarf variety, remaining compact. It is different from other raspberries as it will bear fruit on the first year’s growth and will produce fruit all summer. Raspberry ‘Yummy’ is supplied in a striking red pot, ready to go straight on to the patio. It is available in May in a five-litre pot.
